ABOUT
DW Handcrafted
My passion for woodworking began in High School shop class in the 1970's where I made my first cutting board for my mom. Little did I know at the time that this cutting board would be handed down from my mom to my daughter who now uses it every day. It's become a family heirloom, passed down through generations!
Through the years, I've used woodworking as a creative outlet by making unique and functional pieces for family and friends. Before I knew it, I was taking on commission pieces for them. I loved the challenge of starting with their ideas or goals and elevating them artistically in ways they couldn't have imagined.
My wife says I can look at a tree in the woods and see what's inside it that wants to come out. I'm not sure that's true, but I do love evaluating the unique nature of each piece of wood, allowing the knots, live edges, and natural stress on the tree that develops beautiful patterns to dictate what it will become. I believe it's important to recognize and value the beauty in the natural, unique, and handmade. I also believe that these naturally beautiful pieces should be functional as well as admired. This has become my goal: to turn raw wood into a unique and functional work of art that gets used and enjoyed every day.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing what we can create together.
